Some of my favorite shows are returning this week, with more to come soon. I think it's the perfect time for a new thread for what you all are watching and your thoughts on episodes as they air.
Bob's Burgers Sundays · 8:30pm · Fox · 4 Episodes Left Finally, finally! It returns. A fantastic animated comedy with all-star talent behind it, finally returning for a second season tomorrow after almost an entire year's absence. It's been much too long!
Game of Thrones Sundays · 9:00pm · HBO · 6 Episodes Left I finally caught up (to s2 ep4) and yeah, this show is definitely really good. I don't think the plotting is quite as good as Spartacus (s1 at least) but it still consistently entertains and I like the characters. Well some of them, I didn't even hate anyone in Spartacus as much as the Lannisters (Tyrrion and Tywin not withstanding.)
Veep Sundays · 10:00pm · HBO · 7 Episodes Left After being very interested by the previews, I was a bit let down by the first episode. Still, I can tell it is easily going to get far funnier later on, so I'm sticking around. Plus Julia still got it.
Community Thursdays · 8:30pm · NBC · 5 Episodes Left This is another show that took a longer-than-expected hiatus, but I'm glad it's back... even if I'm not in community college anymore, negating the main reason I originally tuned in... It's like a group of old friends coming back.
Young Justice: Invasion Saturdays · 10:30am · Cartoon Network · 20 Episodes Left I had missed the first half of this show when it began airing late last year, but last week I caught up on all the episodes and now I will begin watching them as they air. I really, really like the show. It's kind of rocky in the same way most first-season shows are, but it has capitalized on its potential much sooner than those other shows in my opinion. A good main cast, intriguing episodic plots, and decent over-arching one are all the makings of a great show.
The Legend of Korra Saturdays · 11:00am · Nickelodeon · 8 Episodes Left The original Avatar: The Last Airbender impressed me as much as anyone; production values, plot, characters, voice acting, music, humor, action. It had everything. Korra seems to be expanding on it while changing up the setting, and making the entire series darker to boot. Can't say I'm complaining.
The Walking Dead Sundays · 9:00pm · AMC · 0 Episodes Left I'm really mixed on the season (and show, really) but I may as well ride it out until the end, eh? What's a better philosophy than that!
South Park Wednesdays · 10:00pm · Comedy Central · 0 Episodes Left A new season, a new bunch of topics to lampoon. Will it ever stop being funny? When will the show start the steep descent into becoming "bad?" For the Simpson's I'm told it was the 10th or 11th seasons, but South Park is already way past that yet has no similar drop in quality. I don't know if this season will be it, but there's only one way to find out.
Spartacus: Vengeance Fridays · 10:00pm · Starz · 0 Episodes Left The first season, "Blood and Sand" really surprised me. I went in expecting a mindless gore/sex mashup but instead found a very, very well-written and acted story. While this season hasn't quite lived up to that first season yet, it's on par with the last one ("Gods of the Arena") and no matter what, I'm in it now. The story and characters are much too ingrained now.
I can't really do a specifics list like this because I don't plan out what I'm going to watch. However, I can make a list of shows I will prioritize when I do turn on the TV.
-King of the Hill -Regular Show -Spongebob (old episodes only) -Worlds Dumbest -American Dad -Family guy -Daily Show or Colbert Report -Always Sunny In Philly
Going to watch Bob's Burgers of course, and I think I'm also going to watch The Aquabats Super Show as well. I should also get back into watching The Daily Show and The Colbert Report like I use to.
Justified Tuesdays - 10pm - FX The best drama currently airing (not in-between seasons) on television.
Delocated Thursdays - Midnight - Adult Swim The best show Adult Swim currently has airing. And one of the main characters is played by Eugene Mirman (Andrex, you'd know him as Gene from Bob's Burgers)
Real Time With Bill Maher Friday - ??? - HBO I don't get HBO, so I just watch this over the weekend whenever.
And Mad Men starts back up in a little less than two weeks.

But if it was cancelled, then Brendan Small might have to go work on Bob's Burgers... hrm...
I'm actually glad they are going back to the 11 minute episodes. It can be more focused. Last season wasn't their best. When they said that it was going to be 20 minute episodes I was hoping for more Tribunal stuff, but there was so little of it. What we did end up getting a few good episodes and the season felt like it was dragging.
Some shows need the small format so they don't drag on. Like Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Then you have shows like Delocated, which seriously benefited from being upped to 22 minutes.
StealthMaster86 wrote:I SERIOUSLY need to watch Justified. I saw the first few episodes of season 1 and that it was amazing.
Honestly, the first few episodes of season one are probably the lowest point the show has had, too. Once the over-arching season-long storylines start and we start seeing recurring characters, the show goes from being pretty cool to being completely awesome. The dialogue has seriously gotten good, too. Especially in this latest season.
Being Human UK- Fantastic show about a vampire, ghost, and werewolf living together. US version doesn't have partial nudity so fuck it.
Shameless UK- Great show its about a family who are still living there lives even if they are poor and live in govt. Housing. It also has sexy young professor X in it from X-Men the first class
Portlandia- people keep telling me this show is good but I don't see it. It has fragments of awesomeness like this
but they are few and far between. But I'm keeping trying
Bob's Burgers s2, ep1: "The Belchies" Really solid ep with some good, but not great or numerous, jokes and a good idea for a plot. Really looking forward to the rest of the season, especially since it's now a full 22-ep one too.
3/5
The Walking Dead s2, ep12: "Better Angels" The cinematography, combined with great pacing, really elevated this episode. Even still, there was some shoddy editing and poor actions. "OMG there's Carl with a gun. Wait why is he out of the house when everyone thinks there's a madman with a gun in the woods? Wait, the spot Shane spent all the time leading Rick to was within viewing distance of the house? Wait, why aren't Carl and Rick talking at all even though Carl's pointing a gun at Rick and is about to shoot? Wait, where the hell did those zombies just pop out of?"
All that aside, I really dug the episode and look forward to next week's finale.
4/5
South Park s16, ep1: "Reverse Cowgirl" Something about this episode just didn't gel with me. The toilet humor (literally) got old kinda fast, the seance lawyer stuff was obvious, Cartman acted insufferable but without any good joke behind it, and the only really funny part came right at the end (and maybe the Butters part.)

it honestly doesn't even make a difference. we get either 20 11 minute episodes, or 10 22 minute ones. same amount of airtime. i'm pretty excited though because season 3 was really good (not as good as one, but an improvement upon 2) and the season finale was one of the best metalocalypse moments ever.

i know what you mean with the tribunal stuff, i was hoping for the same (they're the main reason i watch) but the s3 finale dealt heavily with them, and was incredible. the other episodes of s3 were all pretty character based though, and i thought it was pretty cool. they didn't really explore that aspect in the prior two seasons from what i remember.
s2 for example focused on a lot of tribunal related stuff, but it seemed very watered down, like they weren't actually making any progress with that part of the story. s3 didn't mention them nearly as much, but when they did it mattered.
Andrex wrote:I just learned Scooby Doo: Mystery Inc is coming back for its full second season on May 3!
good, it's the (probably) the best thing that has ever been done with scooby doo (not entirely sure if it beats out zombie island JUST YET but i have a feeling that by the end of the series it will) and it IS the best show on cartoon network right now.

Wow, someone who agrees! Definitely the best thing on CN for sure.
And yeah, while it is hard to top the first two theatrical movies (I love both of them, everything after was kinda lame), it's easily the best series. Who knew adding actual character and plot development could make a series better?
Looks fantastic too. Fricking CN not releasing the Blu-rays.
they've pretty much taken everythign bad about scooby doo, removed it, and multiplied everything good about the series by 100. plus they've added some cool stuff like character development, overarching plots, and tons of references to classic scooby doo / hanna barbera.
I also like the recurring characters. Patrick Warburton as the Sheriff is great, and yeah I love all the references too. When they said in the first ep they'd "never speak of" Scrappy or Flim Flam again I had to laugh.
Apparently Blue Flacon and Dynomutt are in the new season too! So fricking awesome.
yea, sheriff bronson is awesome. can't wait for blue falcon, dynomutt, and any other HB characters they decide to throw at us next season. we already got jabberjaw, speed buggy, captain caveman, and funky phantom.
i'd also like to say that matthew lillard is doing a fine job as shaggy.
Yeah, I could barely tell at first, my sister had to point it out. But how cool is it that Casey Kasum is his dad? Oh man. I'm getting way too fricking excited just talking about this with you.
